One of our goals is to connect with more young people like you, so we know how to do our job better.
This space has been created for you to share your questions, thoughts, concerns and ideas about alcohol. We need your help so we can make your community a healthier and safer place!
I often talk to my son (25) who lives in Los Angeles about the dangers of binge drinking. However his response is always "I don't drink very often". It appears that he feels that because he doesn't drink often that he thinks it's ok to "have a big night". A message that delivers honest information about the health and social impact of binge drinking and the consequences to themselves and others has to be hard hitting and not a softly-softly approach. We often hear people say "I didn't thnk about what could happen" following a tragedy that involved themselves or others no longer cuts it. The message has to be one where we are able to break through the "I'm invincible" barrier must be heralded. Not sure how to do this. My son is a health professional and also a musician. He is very intelligent in most areas, but the message on binge drinking doesn't appear to be getting through.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to hear your son's thoughts on this topic. Why don't you send him the blog link and encourage him to share his ideas?
