Alcohol and marketing

What kind of alcohol marketing connects with you? Do you think it has a big effect on the way you and your friends drink? Do you think alcohol marketing should be banned or kept away from young people?

  1. Personally - I don't think alcohol marketing affects me all that much.

This is probably because I'm a bit of an inner city w*nker and drink expensive boutique beers - thus I am probably falling victim to less obvious marketing - word of mouth etc, rather than the constant VB commericals during the cricket!

But seriously, it's tough to say whether alcohol advertising makes me drink MORE or just affects WHAT alcohol I drink.

But this is NOW we're talking about...Perhaps the damage is well and truly done.

Who's to say how much the constant pairing of alcohol with many of the rituals of childhood (Beer and football - definitely) played a part in forming my attitude to alcohol - and perhaps more importantly, my understanding of Australian society's condoning of drunkeness.

It seems likely it played a part...alcohol companies aren't stupid. The idea of 'getting them young' is a major theme in the marketing of other products, so booz is probably no different.
